Þingvellir National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site that celebrates both the history and the unique landscape of the island. The Park is one of only two places in the world where you can see the amazing transforming power of diverging tectonic plates. There you have the actual opportunity to walk into the rifts formed as the plates are slowly tearing the island apart from the middle.
Historically speaking Þingvellir is one of the most sacred places in Iceland. It is where the old viking parliament, Alþingi, was held. The name of the area literally takes its name from this, Þingvellir translates to The parliament fields. Once there you’ll be able to peer into Iceland’s early history and get a better understanding of the foundation the nation was built upon.
Gullfoss waterfall is one of those places that should be on everybody’s bucket list. It is one of Europe’s most powerful waterfalls and truly a sight to be seen. Summer, Autumn, Winter and spring, it is ever changing but always beautiful in different ways. In summer more often than not it is adorned with a vivid rainbow, as the sun shines through the thick mist. The area takes on an orange and golden hue in autumn as the vegetation turns. In Winter an armor of ice builds on the sides of the canyon, seemingly trying to dam the river. And in Spring, as the snow starts melting, the waterfall puts on a display in the awesome power that only glacier rivers are capable of.
Geysir Geothermal area is one of the defining features of Iceland, and one of the first things that comes to mind when most people think of Iceland. The area takes its name from the first spouting hot springs known to Europeans, Geysir, which means gusher. Now every spouting hot spring in the world takes its name from it. Even though the great Geysir has now gone into retirement, it’s younger brother Strokkur has taken over and puts on a show every 5 to 7 minutes.
Kerið volcanic crater is one of those often overlooked gems. Perhaps due to the uncountable number of craters the island has to offer. Many of whom are even still being formed. But with its deep caldera, pure blue pond at the bottom and bright red coloring of the rocks and paths it stands apart in its own particular beauty, not to mention the amazing view from the crest of the rim on clear days.
But perhaps the best part is the ease of access. Where most craters stand in the middle of rough inaccessible lava fields, kerið stands right next to the road and to get to the actual crater there is only a short 5 minute walk.

← Frequently Asked QuestionsOur day tours departing from Reykjavik City Center depart from Aurora Reykjavik Museum at Grandagarður 2, 101 Reykjavik. Our day tours depart at 9AM. Our Northern Lights tour starts at 8:30PM at the Museum. We recommend you show up at least 15 minutes prior to tour starting time. The museum offers coffee and snacks for the road, and you can also use the toilet before departing. Admission ticket for the Museum is included in the price (2.000 ISK). We recommend you check out the museum when we arrive back after the tour.
